Pre-treatment prior to bonding, printing or metallisation
Achieving good adhesion of coatings on plastics is challenging because these materials are often hydrophobic and have low surface energy. Surface preparation is therefore necessary to improve the adhesion of adhesives, paints or coatings.
Common methods include adhesion primers, which can sometimes be polluting.
Plasma is a more environmentally friendly alternative.
In addition to plastics, it is possible to improve the surface of many materials using PECVD treatment.
Stain-resistant treatment for plastics
We have developed stain-resistant plasma treatments for a wide variety of polymers.
By adjusting the plasma parameters, it is possible to create an effective barrier that prevents the migration of substances, such as food, into the plastic.
This barrier prevents the absorption of food aromas and oils by the plastic, thereby extending the shelf life of food and preserving its quality.
Plasma surface modification is a suitable solution to meet the food industry’s growing requirements in terms of safety and quality.

Improved drying
By making a surface more hydrophilic, plasma promotes better distribution of water across the surface, which can speed up the drying process.
The surface treatment allows water to spread evenly in a thin layer rather than forming droplets, thereby increasing the surface area available for evaporation. Furthermore, a hydrophilic surface can reduce the risk of water marks and improve the adhesion of coatings or adhesives applied subsequently.
By optimising the drying process, plasma modification contributes to the efficiency and quality of finished products across various industrial sectors.
